Filming in Portugal with a production company based in Porto

Bengale has an office in Porto. We support foreign brands, agencies, and production companies that come to film in Portugal—handling location scouting, permits, local crews, equipment, and logistics—with the same production team we use in France.

What We Cover in Portugal

  • Permits and Procedures

Filming requests submitted to municipalities and private property owners, insurance, and compliance by local crews.

  • Location Scouting and Set Design

Porto and Lisbon, the Douro Valley, the Atlantic coast, and the Alentejo. We shortlist locations and document the technical constraints of each set.

  • Teams and Cast

Portuguese technical crews, local production management and casting, supervised by our production team.

  • Equipment and Post-Production

Camera, equipment, and lighting rental on location, followed by editing, color grading, motion design, and sound mixing in our studios if you'd like.

Why Film in Portugal

Portugal offers a wide variety of landscapes within a compact territory: historic cities, contemporary architecture, Atlantic beaches, terraced vineyards, and vast rural areas. Porto and Lisbon are about three hours apart.

It’s also an option worth considering when a French location becomes too expensive or unavailable. With a single point of contact for both France and Portugal, the transition from one to the other can be made without changing the production team.

One organization serving two countries

Our offices in Paris, Marseille, and Porto work together. A single project can bring together sets from both countries under a single schedule, with one contract, one production team, and a single point of contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Portugal offer incentives for film production?

Yes, for certain productions. The Portuguese cash rebate reimburses 25% of eligible expenses—up to 30% based on a cultural assessment—for fiction, animation, and documentary productions intended for theatrical release, television, or streaming platforms. For a feature-length film, the spending threshold in Portugal is €500,000 for fiction or animation and €200,000 for documentaries. Commercials are not considered eligible works.

Do you need a Portuguese entity to qualify?

The applicant must have a company or branch that is subject to taxation in Portugal before incurring eligible expenses, and must be registered in the registry of film and audiovisual entities. If your project meets these criteria, we can work with you to develop a financing plan.

What languages do you work in?

Our teams work in French, English, and Portuguese, as well as in Spanish.

What is the implementation timeline?

It depends on the scope of the project and the required permits. Send us your brief and your dates, and we'll get back to you within 24 hours with an initial feasibility assessment.
